Tuesdays are for Spontaneous Zoo Trips

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

I had to double check that title after I wrote it. It's really only Wednesday?? It feels much later in the week. Summer always makes me get my days mixed up. Anyways, we went to the zoo yesterday! TJ and I have always loved going to the zoo and it has been so fun taking Carson and each time is more fun than the last watching  Carson grow, understand more, and be able to do more. This was his third zoo trip and it was a blast!
Carson LOVED the petting zoo. There wasn't many people at the zoo so we basically had it to ourselves!

We got to pet Nemo the sheep, yes, Nemo. And by petting I mean he patted him once and looked to us for praise, which he of course got because, I mean, he's kind of adorable.

It may not look like it (like at all), but he really enjoyed the carousel! He may or may not have thrown a little tantrum when getting off too haha.

They had a dinosaur exhibit at the zoo called Zoorassic Park. He was doing fine during it until one of the dinosaurs sprayed him with a little water. And yes, I had to take a picture first.

Still not a fan even after being picked up! I was just thankful I didn't have to buy him any dinosaur toys from the gift shop we had to walk through at the end!

And we ended the day with a train ride around the zoo. This boy was ready for a nap by the end!

If you made it to the end, thanks for stopping by and bearing through all the pictures! Have a great day and I'll talk to you tomorrow!

July Favorites

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Well it is somehow already the end of July! This summer is going by so fast and I am completely fine with that because fall is my absolute favorite time of year with the weather, fashion and college football, which is the only sport I can actually stand! Anyways, summer months means blisteringly hot temperatures which means changes need to be made to your makeup routines. Here are some products that I have loved during this hot month!
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
I recently discovered this at the beginning of July. I had heard about it through Youtube and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I ended up being given a sample at the Origins counter at Dillards and was given enough to be able to use it every day this month and it looks like for everyday next month too! I just place this on my under eye area after washing my face in the mornings and it helps de-puff my eyes while brightening my dark under eye area. Two great qualities! I will definitely be purchasing this when I run out of my sample!

My skin has been breaking out lately and I can't seem to narrow out why. Anyways, between all of the products I am using to combat the break outs and being in the sun, my skin has gotten a tad on the dry side, which is odd for me since I'm usually an oily mess in the summer. To help moisturize my skin I have been using this in the morning mixed with my primer! I love it because it gets the job done without making me feel greasy. I also use it as a hand moisturizer when my hands feel dry from washing them all the time!
Side note: I bought the $12.00 tube and it has lasted me a good amount of time!
This. Foundation. Is. AMAZING. I had been using a matte finish foundation and I wanted something with a natural finish for the summer months but that was still full coverage. I also needed something that was long wearing for obvious reasons. I had heard about this a while back and when I came across it on sephora.com I decided to try it out. I ended up getting a sample from Dillards and before I ran out I picked up a bottle because I had to have it! The finish is wonderful, natural, not matte but not too dewy. It certainly is long wearing. You guys I wore this at Disney World all day long and it STAYED! Need I say more?
Side note: Because it is long wearing, it can be drying to your skin so I wouldn't recommend this to someone with already dry skin because I've heard it can appear patchy. Thankfully I haven't had this problem!

I always set my liquid foundation with a powder to help it last longer and combat any potential oiliness. I was using a matte finish powder and wanted something more natural (and I use that term loosely since I use so much makeup!).  This sets my makeup in place, keeps me from getting oily, but still doesn't look cake so it's a win in my book!
I didn't like the way my brush before was distributing my bronzer so I was on the hunt for a new one. Little did I know I had the perfect one right in front of me! I had bought this brush off a recommendation from an employee at Sephora when I very first started to get really into makeup last July/August. I ended up using it incorrectly for a highlighter due to my misunderstanding. Then I was cleaning my brushes and rediscovered this one. It's perfect for a soft contour and just a regular bronzed look. The brush is always great quality! The hairs are soft and don't fall out when washed!
Side note: The brush is rounded on top, the picture just cut off the very top of it!
In my opinion, NARS is best known for their blush and bronzer. I had gotten a blush/bronzer duo compact a year ago and didn't think the colors lived up to the hype. Finally I made my way back to check out the other colors of blush and I fell in love with this! I typically go for a rosy color and I wanted to try something new. This is more of a peach with a slight shimmer. I am NOT a shimmer person but this is a very subtle shimmer and not disco ball-esque I promise! A great color for the summer months!

I am obsessed with this lipstick. It's a lustre so it's still moisturizing. You can wear one coat for a stained, balmy look or wear two for a more opaque look. The color goes with so many looks since it's similar to my natural lip color, just better! I wear it probably 4-5 times a week, it's my go-to lipstick that is for sure! I'm also pretty sure this will be the first lipstick that I actually run out of and will have to repurchase!
Love. This. Stuff. I've always been on the oily side to getting my makeup to last was always a challenge. That is until I found out about this product! When we went to Disney World and I wore makeup I would set my foundation with a matte powder and then spray this on top and it would last all day through the sweat and heat! I used to use the chill setting spray for oily skin and it was fine but I feel like this makes it last even longer. I've gone through two bottles already and have a back up in my drawer for my near empty third! Love it!

Makeup of the Day: Weekend Roundup

Monday, July 28, 2014

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I can't say our's was too busy but it was nice to not have any major plans all weekend for once.
The only thing we really did was get Carson's hair cut. It. Was. Awful. Don't get me wrong, he looks adorably handsome but we had to wait 40 minutes before they could cut it and he had had it by that point and wanted a nap. But hey, at least his hair looks good!

Since I don't have too much else to share I thought I would share my #MOTD's and the products I used!

This was on Friday late afternoon when I got the idea to do this post so I had been wearing this makeup for a little over 10 hours, I'm continuously impressed with how long this foundation wears!

Confessional Friday

Thursday, July 24, 2014

Oh hi! I haven't done one of these in a quick minute and I have missed it so much! I am linking up with the lovely Leslie today at A Blonde Ambition so let's get started!

1. I confess that I just can't cut Carson's hair. He has never gotten a hair cut and it's so overdue but I just can't make myself take him to go get it cut. He has baby curls! A curly baby mullet, but baby curls nonetheless. It used to just be straight, fine, and long in the back but now its thick, curly and getting long all over. Maybe I can muster up the courage next month. No promises though!
Pictures don't do his hair justice at all I swear!

2. I confess that Ulta may or may not have sent me two of their 20% off coupons (for ANYTHING in-store and online) and I have already used one and have full intentions of using the other as well. I can't be the only one who feels better when they break up purchases instead of spending everything all at once!

I want another one of these and this!

3. I confess that T.J. and I started watching Game of Thrones. We're late to the bandwagon but we're trying to catch up. We just finished season one and oh my gosh. OH MY GOSH you guys. It is so intense. We don't get to watch it much since it is certainly not something Carson can watch but I love it and can't wait to see what the other seasons bring!

4. I confess that I am SO excited! I have found the perfect job at the perfect company and have gone through two interviews so far that have gone great! I get to proceed to the final interview once my summer classes finish August 1st and my grades are posted onto my transcript. I am hoping I get to share good news and details soon! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

5. I confess that I am so happy to be back at my little piece of the internet. I love to write like this and get out my thoughts and ideas. It's nice to be able to talk about everything thats on my mind about my favorite things like Carson, makeup, family, or whatever else randomly pops in my head without annoying someone and yacking their ear off! So if you've read all of this, sorry and thank you :)

That's it for today, folks. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will be talking to you soon!

Oh Hey There

Y'all, I missed my little piece of the internet. I'm not about to ramble off a million excuses as to why I haven't had the time to keep up with this because, really, who wants to read that? But I will say that life gets busy and if you don't make something a priority then it will disappear!
While I've been away I've been thinking about what direction I want to take this blog. In the past I got so caught up with learning about new products and giving my reviews that I bought way too much. I also had a difficult time with tutorials. Typing everything out can get a bit text heavy but videos never worked out in my favor because technology apparently has a beef with me. So where does that leave me? I still want to keep up with the motherhood side of this blog and have updates with Carson and our family life so that part is simple and can stay consistent thankfully! Even though I may not be buying as much makeup (Who am I kidding I still buy too much than I could ever need!) I am certainly still wearing it. So I was thinking I could write posts about trends in makeup, what's in that season, my monthly favorites, and a few posts during the week about my makeup that day and the products that I used. Okay? Okay!
Let's start with this guy!
Carson turned 21 months today! That is only 3 months away from 2 years old and I can't handle that. This has been one of the busiest months for us too so time has flown by!
We went to the Wild Wilderness Drive-thru Safari in Gentry, AR. Carson was unimpressed as you can tell. "Kangaroos? Show me Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and hand me a pouch and I might smile for you." Yep, he said just that, I swear it.

We also had tubes put in his ears on July 1st. He had had NINE ear infections since October and the last two resulted in ruptured ear drums so this procedure was well overdue. I am thankful it is behind us! But really, what is more adorably heartbreaking than a baby in a hospital gown??

Oh, we also went to DISNEY WORLD! TJ's family took us to Florida July 12th through the 21st and although that seems like a long time, it really flew by. Five of those days were spent at Disney World and we were there till close nearly every night. It may sound like a horrible idea with a toddler and maybe even down right miserable, but you guys, he was a dream. There was only one day at Epcot that was difficult due to his tantrums but all of the other days he was so well behaved and would take his naps in his stroller. I'm so glad we decided to take him this year instead of wait!

And lastly, this. I snapped this pic right before we left our vacation house. Did he somehow know we were leaving, you ask? No, just the terrible twos making an early appearance in full force. Even though he behaved fairly well at Disney World he certainly showed us that he's capable of being an independent, stubborn, fit-throwing BOY. Yes, boy, not baby. I love this child to death though and am thankful for the majority of the time where he is sweet! But this child definitely knows how to throw a fit ;)

There's our 21 month recap!  Can't wait to talk to you all soon!
